LOVE – When its Hard to Give

Today God brought me back to 1 Corinthians 13. It kept on going on and on in my mind and spirit until I just had to wake up and read it again.

LOVE is patient

Love is kind

Love NEVER is envious nor boils over with jealousy

Love is not Boastful or Vainglorious

Love does not display itself haughtily

Love is not conceited, arrogant and inflated with Pride

Love is not rude and does not act unbecomingly

Love does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self seeking, it is not touchy, or resentful

Love takes NO account of the evil or wrongs done to it (it pays no attention to a suffered wrong)

Love does not rejoice at injustice but rejoices when right and truth prevail

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes; it is ready to believe the best of every person

Love endures everything without weakening

I believe God brought this scripture back to me not only as a reminder of the kind of love that He has for me, but also a reminder of the kind of love that you and I should ALWAYS have no matter the circumstances.

It is easy to have this kind of love when the people who we are giving it to are reciprocating the same kind of love. However, it can be a total different ball game when Love is just being given from one end and not being received back from the other end.

When I read through this scripture, God reminded me that, He wrote it because He knew that at some point in our lives, we would face situations or people that would make it difficult for us to show His kind of Love and be LOVE to them. He knew, that someone was going to test your very last nerve of patience and kindness (So reminds you LOVE IS PATIENT –LOVE IS KIND),

God saw that one person that was going to upset you, hurt you, disappoint you over and over and over again – to the point you just would believe that you can’t take it anymore. He knew that your mind would at some point continue to replay the wrongs and evils done against you over and over again until it became impossible to Love them.

“Lord how can I love them? They keep hurting me – they don’t even seem to care– Lord they don’t deserve my mercy – I can’t forgive Lord – Lord I can love any other person but this one, this one Lord, no its late – I just cannot”

He knew something was going to trigger your sinful nature to want to envy or be jealous of another (So reminds you – LOVE NEVER IS ENVIOUS NOR BOILS OVER WITH JEALOUSY)

God so knew that there would be times that Pride was going to be a foothold or at least attempt to have a stronghold in your life (So reminds you – LOVE IS NOT CONCEITED, ARROGANT AND INFLATED WITH PRIDE)

Friend, God knew that there were situations that were going to provoke you to be Rude and act unbecomingly, be self-seeking, resentful (So reminds you – LOVE IS NOT RUDE AND DOES NOT ACT UNBECOMINGLY. LOVE DOES NOT INSIST ON ITS OWN RIGHTS OR ITS OWN WAY, FOR IT IS NOT SELF SEEKING, IT IS NOT TOUCHY, OR RESENTFUL)

Love is a self less act. Jesus died for us and yet we were still sinners and in sin. When we look in the context and time when Jesus Christ was crucified – we see the most powerful demonstration of God’s love. Jesus was ready, willing and even died for the same people that were shouting “CRUCIFY HIM, CRUCIFY HIM,CRUCIFY HIM”. He died for people who pretended to be his friends and followers – yet in the last hour they turned their backs on Him. Jesus endured the pain, humiliation, and the mockery for people who didn’t even care and love him back. JESUS DID THAT. He loved us so much to bare it all on HIM so that we would be redeemed and saved. THAT IS LOVE IN ACTION.

So my friend, God knew. He knew of the betrayal, He knew of the backstabbers, He knew about the fake followers, He knew of the disloyal people you would meet, He knew of the heartbreaks you would face, He knew it all. But HE HAS GIVEN US THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL – THAT IS LOVE. FOR LOVE COVERS A MULTITUDE OF SIN. LOVE KEEPS YOU GOING EVEN IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY. LOVE IS GOD. YOU NEED GOD TO LOVE THROUGH IT ALL.

LOVE takes your human nature out of the equation and brings in God in to the equation. On our own we are in capable of loving. BUT, with God who is LOVE in us, we are more than able to love, and to love all – even those who we think do not deserve to be loved – God’s LOVE makes it possible to love them the more.

God has made it literally impossible for me not to love. Anytime I find myself withholding love… His PEACE leaves me. I am not at peace when I fail to give love as God commands. It will torment and torture me until I give in and love. At times, when my human nature gets in the way of me showing God’s Love to all, I have to ask Holy Spirit to enable and grace me to give it freely. Giving love can be hard but the feeling is indescribable when we do give it. There’s a great sense of peace that comes upon us when we give God’s love.

John 15:12-14

This is my commandment, that ye LOVE one another, as I loved you. Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

I pray that today, God saturates and fills you up with HIS KIND OF LOVE. The Love that bears all things, the kind of LOVE that never fails or gives up on loving. You may have written some relations off, some friendships off, some people off because of what they did or didn’t do for you. You may even feel justified for not caring and loving them – Yes probably what they did was very very wrong – BUT today, I pray that you make a decision to choose to start loving others like Christ loved you. I pray that GOD begins to heal every hurting area of your life – where you have been let down, disappointed, rejected, abandoned, betrayed, backstabbed, broken, violated, abused…etc. so that it makes it easier for you to LOVE genuinely. I pray that you can still love even when it still hurts and stings like it just happened yesterday. I pray for the grace and enablement of the power of the Holy Spirit to move past what has happened and extend GOD’s love freely. May God’s love bring healing, restoration, restitution, justice, peace and hope. For love conquers all.

Meditation Scripture:

Luke 6:32-36

If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that?

Even sinners love those who love them!

And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why would you get credit?

Even sinners do that much!

And if you lend money to those who can repay you, why should you get credit?

Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.

Lend to them with out expecting to be repaid.

Then, your reward from heaven will be very great,

And you will be acting as children of the most High God, for He is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked – you must be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate.

Be encouraged, stay blessed and LOVE ALL
